Community Service
Community Service
BARSP members collectively participate with their time, talents and money in various endeavors. Members collect various items for several projects to assist residents in area nursing facilities. We gather simple items and create bags given to veterans on Veterans Day. We also create fun bags for teachers on Valentine's Day.

During the year, we collect money during our meetings and at the end of the school year, we purchase and donate books for elementary students at Brenham Elementary, Alton Elementary, and Burton Elementary.

We also assist area food banks with food or monetary donations. This past year, we donated over $1000 to help fund lunches for students during the summer.
Volunteering
We encourage our members to become or stay active within their community. Offering the gift of time, talents, training and experience within the community, state, or nation helps promote well-being of our members. We volunteer, working as mentors in schools, serving church and civic groups and other non profit groups such as Faith Ministries, and the Burton Bridge Ministries' Corner Shoppe, Manna Food Pantry, and Senior Meals. During the 2023-24 school year, BARSP members documented over 4000 volunteer hours.
Scholarships
We offer scholarships each year to area high school seniors who plan on pursuing their degrees in education related fields. Scholarship monies are raised during our Scholarship Auction in December. Applications for scholarships are accepted in the early Spring Semester. Seniors should check with their school counselors for applications and important due dates for applicants or may email BARSP directly at barsp1970@gmail.com. Our scholarship committee reviews all applicates and puts finalist names for a vote by the membership. Funds must be claimed within a reasonable amount of time or the scholarship will be forfeited. Scholarship funds are released directly to the graduates' college school choice.
Two scholarships were awarded in May 2024: one for a student in Sommerville ISD and the other for a student in Brenham ISD.
